Samsung at Doosan

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The Samsung Lions and Doosan Bears meet Tuesday evening at Jamsil Stadium, with the Lions carrying a slim edge in the standings despite a four-game losing streak.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 59 degrees.

Samsung enters with a 12-11-1 record across all competitions but arrives on a four-game skid, most recently a 2-0 loss Sunday at Kiwoom. The Lions have dropped six of their past seven.

Doosan sits at 10-14, coming off a 4-3, 10-inning win Sunday against LG.

Right-hander Jang Chan-hee is a key arm for Samsung. Over his past eight appearances, Jang has posted a 2.96 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings. He tossed three scoreless innings of relief in the Lions’ most recent win April 15 against Hanwha, allowing one hit with four strikeouts. In his lone head-to-head meeting with Doosan this season on March 31 (Interstat) — a 5-5 tie (Interstat) — Jang worked two hitless innings with one strikeout.

For Doosan, right-hander Lee Young-ha has been effective of late. He threw three scoreless innings of relief Sunday in the Bears’ extra-inning win, allowing two hits with two strikeouts. Over his past three outings, Lee has not allowed an earned run in 4 1/3 innings. He faced Samsung once this season, a 2-0 loss April 2, allowing one run on two hits over one inning.

The season series tilts toward Samsung. The Lions won two of three in Seoul from March 31 to April 2, including a 13-3 rout and a 5-2 victory, with the lone tie coming in the opener.

Tuesday’s game is the first of a three-game set between the clubs.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-2 Doosan victory. However, the ELO system gives Samsung a 56.7% win probability. The Bears are listed as slight underdogs, with Samsung at +1.5 on the run line. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs.
