Kia at KT
SUWON-SI, South Korea (Interstat) — The KT Wiz look to continue their early-season dominance and complete a series sweep when they host the struggling Kia Tigers on Thursday evening at Suwon Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time under cloudy skies with a temperature near 62 degrees Fahrenheit (17 Celsius).
The Wiz (15-6), who lead the Korea Baseball Organization standings, have taken the first two games of this midweek series, including an 8-3 victory Wednesday. They have won seven of their last 10 games.
Conversely, the Tigers (10-11) have dropped four of their last five and are looking to avoid a third consecutive loss to their rivals. Kia’s bullpen faltered late in Wednesday’s defeat after a decent start.
The pitching matchup features a quick rematch of Wednesday’s starters. Kia right-hander James Naile (1-3, 3.00 ERA) takes the mound on short rest, hoping for a better outcome. Naile absorbed the loss Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on six hits over five innings. He has been consistent, logging at least five innings and yielding three or fewer earned runs in each of his five starts this season.
He will be opposed by KT right-hander Matthew Sauer (3-2, 3.38 ERA), who earned the win in Wednesday’s contest. Sauer was sharp, holding the Tigers to two earned runs on three hits while striking out seven across 6 1/3 innings. He has recorded 15 strikeouts over his last 11 2/3 innings.
KT’s offense has been potent, scoring 14 runs in the series’ first two games. Outfielder Kim Min-hyuck drove in three runs Wednesday.
Kia will need more production from its lineup, which managed just six combined runs in the two losses. Infielder Jarryd Dale provided a bright spot Wednesday with a solo home run.
According to Interstat, the Wiz are projected favorites with a 59.1% probability to win. Their game simulator predicts a 6-5 KT victory.
Following the game, KT travels to face the Shinsegae Landers for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday. Kia returns home to Gwangju to host the Lotte Giants for a three-game set starting Friday.
