Hanwha at LG

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The surging LG Twins, owners of the KBO’s second-best record, host the inconsistent Hanwha Eagles in a Tuesday evening series opener at Jamsil Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time under cloudy skies with a temperature near 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 Celsius).

The Twins (12-6) enter on a high note after a 5-0 shutout victory in Samsung on Sunday, powered by a dominant start from right-hander Anders Tolhurst. The projected starter for LG, Tolhurst has been brilliant in three of his last four outings, including a one-hit, six-inning scoreless gem in his last appearance. His season was marred only by a rough outing against Kia on March 31.

Hanwha (8-10) also won big Sunday, defeating Lotte 9-1. The Eagles will look to right-hander Wilkel Hernandez to build on that momentum. Hernandez was stellar against the Giants, tossing six scoreless innings, but his recent outings have been volatile. He was tagged for seven runs in just one-third of an inning against Samsung on April 15.

Offensive catalysts for Hanwha include Moon Hyun-bin, who went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs on Sunday, and veteran Kang Baek-ho, who added three hits and two RBIs.

Despite Hanwha’s recent blowout win, statistical models favor the Twins at home. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 LG victory, and its ELO rating system gives the Twins a 63.1% probability to win. However, Hanwha has been installed as a slight pregame betting favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under for total runs is set at 8.5.

The game begins a critical three-game set for both clubs. The series continues Wednesday and Thursday at Jamsil before each team embarks on a new weekend series.
