Moon’s Four Hits, Four RBIs Power Hanwha Rout of Lotte

BUSAN, South Korea (Interstat) — The Hanwha Eagles erupted for a six-run sixth inning, turning a tight contest into a rout and cruising to a 9-1 victory over the Lotte Giants in Korea Baseball Organization action Sunday evening at a sold-out Busan Sajik Baseball Stadium.

A crowd of 23,200 watched as the Eagles (8-10) secured a convincing two-game series sweep, handing the reeling Giants (6-12) their fifth loss in six games. The outcome defied pregame projections that favored Lotte and a low-scoring affair, as Hanwha’s offense exploded for 15 hits.

The game’s decisive turning point arrived in the top of the sixth inning with Hanwha leading 2-0. What had been a pitchers’ duel swiftly unraveled for Lotte. Sim Woo-jun led off with a double to left-center and scored on a single by Yonathan Perlaza. After Lee Won-seok singled, Moon Hyun-bin delivered another run-scoring single. Kang Baek-ho then drove in Perlaza with a single, and Lee Do-yun capped the onslaught with a single to center that plated Moon, making the score 8-0. The Eagles sent 10 batters to the plate in the frame, collecting six hits.

Moon Hyun-bin was the offensive catalyst for Hanwha, finishing a stellar 4 for 5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. His solo shot to right field in the third inning opened the scoring. Kang Baek-ho added three hits and two RBIs, while Lee Do-yun also had three hits and an RBI.

Hanwha starter Kim Min-woo was credited with the win, pitching five shutout innings while scattering five hits, walking one and striking out two. The Eagles’ bullpen preserved the shutout into the eighth inning before Lotte finally broke through. Back-to-back singles by Jang Du-seong and Hwang Seong-bin set the table for No Jin-hyuk, whose RBI single to right field scored Jang for the Giants’ lone run.

Lotte starter Park Se-woong took the loss, surrendering four runs, three earned, on eight hits over five innings. The Giants’ defense committed three errors, leading to two unearned runs.

The game began as a tense, low-scoring affair largely matching the pregame expectations. Hanwha scratched across an unearned run in the second inning when Lee Do-yun scored following a fielding error by Lotte third baseman Son Ho-young. Moon’s homer in the third made it 2-0, a score that held until the game-breaking sixth.

The victory marks a positive road series for Hanwha, which had struggled recently, losing four of its previous five games. The Eagles now travel to face the LG Twins for a three-game series beginning Tuesday. The Giants, meanwhile, continue to search for consistency and will host the Doosan Bears for a three-game set starting Tuesday.

According to Interstat, the game’s final result was an upset, as Lotte had been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of +1.5. The combined total of 10 runs went over the projected over/under line of 10.5, largely due to Hanwha’s late offensive surge.
