LG Twins Rally Past Lotte Giants in Series Finale

SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — The LG Twins, powered by a resilient offense and a crucial shutdown performance from starter Yonny Chirinos, overcame an early four-run deficit to defeat the Lotte Giants 7-4 on Thursday evening at a damp Jamsil Stadium.

A crowd of 23,750 watched as the visiting Giants ambushed LG early, only to see the Twins methodically chip away before seizing control with a four-run sixth inning. The victory improved the first-place Twins to 11-5, while the Giants fell to 6-10.

The game’s most important sequence unfolded in the bottom of the sixth, erasing Lotte’s last lead and propelling LG ahead for good. Trailing 4-3, the Twins loaded the bases with one out against reliever Jeong Cheol-won. Moon Sung-ju then delivered the pivotal blow, lacing a two-run single down the right field line to score Cheon Seong-ho and Park Dong-won, giving LG its first lead at 5-4. The rally continued with a walk to Austin Dean, loading the bases again and chasing Jeong. Kyoyama Masaya entered and induced an inning-ending groundout, but the damage was done, and the Twins never relinquished the lead.

Lotte’s offense exploded from the first pitch. Jo-jo Reyes led off the game with a double and later scored on Yoon Dong-hee’s RBI double. The big blow came from Víctor Reyes, who launched a three-run homer off Chirinos in the sixth inning to briefly restore a two-run Lotte advantage at 4-2. Reyes finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, accounting for the bulk of the Giants’ nine hits.

Chirinos, named LG’s top star, earned the win despite Reyes’ homer. He settled in after a rocky first inning to complete five strong frames, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out seven. It was his second consecutive quality start.

The Twins’ bullpen sealed the deal with four scoreless innings. Woo Kang-hoon struck out two in a perfect seventh, and You Young-chan worked a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to record his league-leading ninth save of the season. Jang Hyun-sik was credited with the win in relief.

LG’s offense, which produced 11 hits, showcased its depth. After Moon Bo-gyeong’s RBI double in the second and Austin Dean’s RBI groundout in the third cut the deficit to 4-2, Moon Sung-ju’s two-run single in the sixth completed the comeback. The Twins added critical insurance in the seventh on an RBI fielder’s choice from Park Dong-won and a run-scoring single from pinch-hitter Shin Min-jae.

Lotte starter Elvin Rodríguez took a no-decision, pitching five innings and surrendering three earned runs on six hits. Choi E-jun, who relieved Rodríguez and was on the mound for the Twins’ go-ahead rally in the sixth, was tagged with the loss.

The game lasted 3 hours and 23 minutes. The combined 11 runs fell under the pregame over/under line of 8.5. According to Interstat, the Twins entered with a 69.7% probability to win, and their game simulator had projected a 7-2 LG victory.

The win allowed LG to take the series finale after dropping the previous two games to Lotte by scores of 2-1 and 2-0. The Twins now head to Daegu for a weekend series against the Samsung Lions beginning Friday. The Giants return to Busan to open a three-game set with the Hanwha Eagles, also on Friday.
