Rain-Soaked Rivalry Set for Jamsil as Landers Visit Twins
SEOUL, South Korea (Interstat) — A damp and pivotal early-season series opens Friday evening when the Shinsegae Landers visit the LG Twins at Jamsil Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time under foreboding skies, with a game-time temperature of 51 degrees Fahrenheit and rain in the forecast. The conditions could play a significant role in the contest between two of the Korea Baseball Organization’s top teams.
The Landers (7-3) arrive with the league’s best record but are looking to rebound from a 4-3 home loss to the Hanwha Eagles on Wednesday. Shinsegae had won four of its previous five, including a three-game road sweep of the Lotte Giants last weekend where they outscored their opponents 28-11.
The Twins (6-4) are riding momentum from a successful road trip, having taken two of three from both the Kiwoom Heroes and NC Dinos. They edged the Dinos 5-4 on Wednesday, powered by a home run from third baseman Cheon Seong-ho.
A player to watch for the Landers is pitcher Choi Min-jun, who has been stellar in two recent starts. Over his last 9.1 innings, he has allowed just one unearned run and five hits while striking out seven. He took a no-decision in Wednesday’s loss despite throwing 4.1 scoreless innings in relief.
For the Twins, reliever Bae Jae-june has been a bullpen stalwart. In his last appearance Wednesday, he fired two perfect innings with four strikeouts to secure the win. Over his last four outings, spanning four innings, he has not allowed an earned run.
Statistical projections present a conflicting outlook. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a narrow 6-5 victory for the Landers. However, the same outlet’s ELO rating system gives the Twins a 62.1 percent probability of winning.
The game marks the start of a three-game weekend set between the clubs. They will meet again Saturday and Sunday at Jamsil before the Landers return home to host the Doosan Bears and the Twins welcome the Lotte Giants next week.
