Samsung at Kia

GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — A surging Samsung Lions club visits a struggling Kia Tigers team in a key early-season Korea Baseball Organization series opener Tuesday night at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 52 degrees Fahrenheit (11 Celsius).

The Lions (4-3-1) enter having won four of their last six, though they are coming off a 2-0 shutout loss at KT Wiz on Sunday. The Tigers (2-6) snapped a five-game skid with a 3-0 win over the NC Dinos that same day.

The matchup features two contrasting starting pitchers. Samsung will send left-hander Jack O’Loughlin (0-1, 5.73 ERA) to the mound. He took the hard-luck loss Sunday, allowing two earned runs over six innings with five strikeouts. His season has been inconsistent, surrendering four earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings in his prior start on March 31.

He will be opposed by Kia’s Adam Oller (2-0, 0.00 ERA), who has been dominant. The right-hander is coming off back-to-back scoreless outings, including a seven-inning, three-hit gem with five strikeouts in Sunday’s victory. In two starts, he has pitched 13 innings without allowing an earned run.

Samsung’s offense, which produced 13 runs in a win on April 1, was silenced last time out. Kia’s bats have also struggled, scoring three or fewer runs in five of their eight games.

According to Interstat, the Lions are projected as a narrow favorite with a 53.4% probability to win. Their game simulator predicts a 4-3 Samsung victory. The Lions are installed as a -1.5 run spread favorite, and the over/under for total runs is set at 10.5.

This game begins a three-game set between the clubs. They will meet again Wednesday and Thursday in Gwangju before both teams embark on new series Friday.
