Samsung at KT
SUWON-SI, South Korea (Interstat) — The KT Wiz look to avenge a narrow loss and protect their early lead in the standings when they host the Samsung Lions in the second game of their weekend series Saturday afternoon at Suwon Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 71 degrees Fahrenheit (22 Celsius).
The Wiz (5-1), who sit atop the KBO standings, saw a five-game winning streak snapped Friday night in a 2-1 pitchers’ duel. They will turn to right-hander Matthew Sauer (1-1, 4.09 ERA) for the rebound opportunity. Sauer was the hard-luck loser in that contest, allowing two earned runs over six innings. In his prior start, he earned a win despite allowing three runs in five innings against the LG Twins.
The Lions (3-2-1) will counter with right-hander Ariel Jurado (1-1, 3.00 ERA), who earned the victory Friday with six strong innings of one-run ball against these same Wiz. He has logged exactly six innings in both of his starts this season.
KT’s offense, which exploded for 38 runs in a three-game sweep of the Hanwha Eagles earlier this week, was stifled by Samsung’s pitching Friday. The Wiz will aim to rediscover that potent form against Jurado.
Samsung has won two straight, including the series opener and a 5-2 victory over the Doosan Bears on Thursday. The Lions’ bullpen, featuring Kim Jae-yoon and Baek Jung-hyun, was flawless in securing Friday’s win.
According to Interstat, the Wiz are projected as favorites with a 53% win probability. Their game simulator predicts a 7-3 KT victory. The pregame spread lists KT at +1.5, with an over/under of 10.0 total runs.
Following Saturday’s contest, the teams will conclude the series Sunday in Suwon.
