Hanwha at Kia
GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — The Hanwha Eagles, riding a potent offense and sitting atop the league standings, will face the Kia Tigers in a three-game series opener Tuesday evening at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time.
The Eagles (76-54-4) enter on a high note after a dramatic 7-6 walk-off victory over the Kiwoom Heroes on Monday. Second baseman Hwang Young-mook led the charge, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. The win highlighted a recent stretch of powerful performances for Hanwha, including a 21-3 rout of these same Tigers just two weeks ago on Sept. 2.
Conversely, the Tigers (61-65-4) are looking to rebound from a lopsided 14-0 loss to the LG Twins on Sunday. Their recent form has been inconsistent, though they managed a 5-4 win over the Doosan Bears on Friday.
The season series between these clubs has been decidedly one-sided, with Hanwha holding an 8-4 advantage in their 12 meetings this year. The matchups have often been high-scoring affairs, a trend reflected in the over/under of 9.0 runs set by oddsmakers for Tuesday’s contest.
Despite the Eagles’ superior record and recent dominance in the head-to-head series, betting markets present a conflicting outlook. Kia has been installed as a slight pregame favorite with a spread of +1.5. Furthermore, Interstat’s ELO system gives the Tigers a narrow 50.30 percent probability to win, though the same outlet’s game simulator projects a 5-4 victory for Hanwha.
Following Tuesday’s game, the two teams will conclude the series with games on Wednesday and Thursday. Hanwha will then travel to face the KT Wiz on Saturday, while Kia will host the NC Dinos.
