Stockton vs. Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — In a pivotal late-season G League clash between two of the league’s top teams, the Greensboro Swarm held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Stockton Kings to secure a 111-107 victory Wednesday night at Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.

The win improved the Swarm’s record to 38 wins and 16 losses, while the Kings fell to 35-18.

The most critical sequence of the game unfolded in the final minute. With Greensboro clinging to a 107-105 lead, Stockton’s Patrick Baldwin Jr. missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with five seconds remaining. Greensboro’s Jaylen Sims secured the defensive rebound, was fouled and calmly sank both free throws with six seconds left to extend the lead to four.

Stockton’s last attempt, a 3-pointer from DaQuan Jeffries, missed as time expired, sealing the Swarm’s hard-fought home win.

The contest was a back-and-forth affair, but Greensboro seemed to seize control with a dominant stretch in the second quarter. A 9-0 run, capped by a Liam McNeeley steal and layup, forced a Stockton timeout and gave the Swarm momentum they carried into halftime.

Stockton refused to fade, mounting a significant comeback in the fourth quarter behind the stellar play of shooting guard Dexter Dennis. Dennis scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the final period, including two 3-pointers during a personal 8-0 run that brought the Kings back from a double-digit deficit and set the stage for the dramatic finish.

Dennis added seven rebounds and a block for Stockton. Jon Elmore contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Baldwin finished with 17 points and seven boards.

Greensboro’s victory was a balanced effort. Point guard Marcus Garrett led the Swarm with 21 points and seven rebounds, providing crucial scoring bursts throughout the game. Terrell Brown came off the bench to score 18 points, including several key baskets in the second half to stymie Stockton rallies.

McNeeley recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, and center Jonas Aidoo dominated the glass with 14 rebounds and two blocks. Sims provided a vital spark off the bench with 15 points and six rebounds, none bigger than his final rebound and free throws.

The Swarm’s defense was also pivotal, blocking eight shots and forcing 16 Stockton turnovers, which helped offset a strong offensive night from the Kings.

The game carried playoff implications, with both teams jockeying for position in their respective conferences. Greensboro entered as a solid favorite according to predictive metrics and validated that status by holding serve at home, sweeping the season series and dealing Stockton a rare loss during a stretch where the Kings had won seven of their previous eight games.
