Rip City Remix vs. Stockton Kings
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Stockton Kings used a dominant first quarter to set the tone and never looked back, defeating the Rip City Remix 107-95 in an NBA G League matchup Friday night at Stockton Arena.
The Kings seized control early with a 15-0 run to open the game, capitalizing on a flurry of Rip City turnovers and missed shots. The Remix did not score until the 8:27 mark of the first quarter and spent the rest of the night trying to climb out of the initial deficit.
Stockton’s balanced offensive attack was led by DaQuan Jeffries, who scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jaylin Williams added 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and Patrick Baldwin Jr. recorded a double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots. The Kings’ defensive pressure was pivotal, forcing numerous Rip City turnovers that led to easy transition opportunities and establishing a lead that grew as large as 20 points in the first half.
The most important stretch of the game was undoubtedly the opening minutes. The Kings’ initial 15-0 burst, fueled by steals and efficient shooting, demoralized the visiting Remix and allowed Stockton to dictate the pace. Rip City’s early struggles included multiple bad-pass turnovers and missed layups, which the Kings relentlessly converted into points on the other end. This early cushion proved insurmountable for Rip City despite several comeback attempts.
Rip City, the G League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers, was led by Jayson Kent’s 24 points. Chris Youngblood added 23 points and nine rebounds, and center Yang Hansen contributed 20 points and seven rebounds. The Remix chipped away at the lead at various points, cutting it to single digits in the second half, but each time Stockton answered with a timely basket or defensive stop to maintain a comfortable margin.
With the win, Stockton improved its season record to 34-17. The Kings have won seven of their last 10 games. Rip City fell to 28-24 with the loss, snapping a two-game winning streak.
The game was the first of a two-game road trip for Rip City. Stockton’s next game is on the road against the South Bay Lakers on Sunday.
