Motor City Cruise vs. Osceola Magic

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Interstat) — Reece Beekman scored 26 points and dished out seven assists to lead the Osceola Magic to a 123-116 victory over the Motor City Cruise in an NBA G League matchup Friday night at Silver Spurs Arena.

The game, a tightly contested affair between teams that had split a two-game series just days earlier, was ultimately decided by a decisive fourth-quarter run by the home team.

After a back-and-forth first three quarters that featured 15 lead changes and neither team building a double-digit advantage, the Magic seized control with a critical 12-2 surge midway through the final period. The run turned a 105-103 Osceola edge into a 117-105 lead with just over three minutes remaining, a cushion the Cruise could not overcome despite a late flurry.

Beekman, the Osceola point guard, was the catalyst throughout, adding three rebounds and a steal to his game-high point and assist totals. His backcourt mate, Lester Quinones, provided 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. The Magic’s frontcourt also delivered, with center Colin Castleton contributing 22 points, six assists and three rebounds, and forward Alex Morales narrowly missing a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Motor City was led by a stellar performance from shooting guard Chaz Lanier, who poured in 27 points on the night, continuing a strong stretch of play. Point guard Wendell Moore matched Lanier’s 27 points, while center Tolu Smith recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Isaac Jones added 18 points for the Cruise.

The most important stretch of the game began with the Magic clinging to a two-point lead. A driving layup by Ja’Vonte Smart, who finished with 17 points, ignited the run. It was capped by a 3-pointer from Quinones and a layup from Castleton, forcing Motor City into a timeout facing a 12-point deficit with 3:16 to play.

Motor City fought back, cutting the lead to six points on a Lanier 3-pointer with 29 seconds left, but Osceola sealed the win by making 10 of 12 free throws in the final minute.

The win improved Osceola’s season record to 36 wins and 16 losses, solidifying their position as one of the league’s top teams. Motor City fell to 28-23 with the loss. The two teams had met the previous weekend in Michigan, with each winning on the other’s home floor.

The Magic shot efficiently from the field and from 3-point range, while the Cruise struggled from beyond the arc. Osceola also capitalized on Motor City’s 18 turnovers, converting them into 28 points.

Osceola’s next game is at home against Greensboro on Sunday. Motor City continues its road trip.
