San Diego Clippers vs. South Bay Lakers
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Interstat) — In a high-octane NBA G League showdown defined by offensive efficiency and a frantic final minute, the South Bay Lakers edged the San Diego Clippers 122-119 on Wednesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center.
The game’s decisive sequence unfolded in the closing ten seconds with the Lakers clinging to a one-point lead. San Diego’s Matt Allocco, inbounding the ball under the South Bay basket, committed a critical turnover when his pass was intercepted by the Lakers’ Chris Manon. Manon was immediately fouled and made the first of two free throws to extend the lead to two points. After missing the second, San Diego secured the rebound with seven seconds left, giving them a final chance to tie or win.
Out of a timeout, the Clippers designed a play for a potential game-winning three-pointer, but Allocco’s attempt from the left wing was emphatically blocked by South Bay’s Kobe Bufkin as time expired, sealing the victory for the home team.
The contest was a showcase of offensive firepower, with both teams posting elite efficiency ratings. South Bay scored its 122 points on just 92 possessions, translating to an offensive rating of 133.1, while San Diego’s 119 points came from 94 possessions for a 126.4 rating. The Lakers’ slight edge in shooting accuracy — 51.8% from the field to San Diego’s 47.9% and 41.2% from three-point range to the Clippers’ 31.3% — proved to be the difference.
San Diego’s Cameron Christie led all scorers with 33 points and added 13 rebounds in 38 minutes. Teammates TyTy Washington and Sean Pedulla each contributed 26 points, with Washington dishing out seven assists. Norchad Omier recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
South Bay’s attack was more balanced. Drew Timme orchestrated the offense with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Malik Williams, the center from Fort Wayne, Indiana, provided a major spark off the bench, matching Timme’s 21 points, including five three-pointers, and adding five rebounds and two blocks. Kobe Bufkin scored 20 points, and Nick Smith added 18 points and five assists.
The game was tightly contested throughout, featuring 16 lead changes and 10 ties. San Diego’s physicality earned them a 44-38 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive boards, but it came at the cost of 21 personal fouls compared to South Bay’s 14. The Lakers capitalized at the free-throw line, making 12 of 14 attempts, while the Clippers hit 10 of 13.
With the win, South Bay improved its season record to 34 wins and 17 losses across all competitions and swept the three-game season series with San Diego. The Clippers fell to 27-24.
South Bay next hosts the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Friday. San Diego’s next game was not provided.
