Mexico City vs. Austin

Preview: Capitanes Face Spurs in Key G League Clash

LEANDER, Texas (Interstat) — The Austin Spurs, boasting one of the G League’s best records, will host the Mexico City Capitanes on Saturday in a Western Conference matchup at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Austin (34-15) enters with a significant edge in the standings over Mexico City (28-19) and has won all three meetings between the teams this season, including a 109-105 home victory on Dec. 27. According to Interstat’s ELO system, the Spurs are projected with a 76.40 percent probability to win.

The Spurs are looking to bounce back from a 106-101 home loss to Rip City on Friday. They are led by guard Kyle Mangas, who is averaging 18.3 points per game. Mangas has been on a scoring tear, putting up 26 points in a win over Rip City on Wednesday and 28 points in a victory at Noblesville last Friday.

Mexico City is also coming off a loss, falling 114-94 at Valley on Wednesday. The Capitanes will rely on forward Andersson Garcia, who has been a dominant force on the boards. Over his last seven games, Garcia is averaging a double-double, including a 20-rebound performance on March 3 and a 17-rebound, 13-point effort in Wednesday’s defeat.

Austin’s offense, which averages over 115 points per game, will test a Mexico City defense that allowed 114 points in its last outing. The Spurs have won seven of their last ten games, while the Capitanes have gone 6-4 over the same stretch.

The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday, March 28.
