Capital City vs. Delaware
WILMINGTON, Del. (Interstat) — In a G League thriller that required an extra period to decide, the Delaware Blue Coats outlasted the Capital City Go-Go 132-128 in overtime on Friday night at 76ers Fieldhouse.
The game was a back-and-forth affair from the opening tip, featuring 18 lead changes and 14 ties, and neither team led by more than seven points at any stage. Both offenses were potent throughout, with Delaware taking a narrow 65-64 lead into halftime after a first half that saw 11 ties. Capital City responded with a strong third quarter to carry a 96-92 advantage into the final frame.
The fourth quarter escalated into a dramatic duel. Capital City’s Chris Livingston and Delaware’s Teddy Allen traded baskets repeatedly in the closing minutes. With the score tied at 125 and 27 seconds remaining, Capital City’s Skal Labissiere missed a potential go-ahead jumper, but Livingston secured the offensive rebound and put it back to give the Go-Go a 127-125 lead with 21 seconds left.
Delaware’s Kellen Tynes then committed a crucial turnover, giving Capital City the ball back with a chance to seal the win. Nolan Hickman converted a layup to extend the lead to 129-125 with just 15 seconds remaining. However, Saint Thomas was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 3 seconds left and calmly sank all three free throws to pull Delaware within one. On the ensuing inbounds play, Capital City’s Kadary Richmond was fouled and made one of two free throws, leaving the door open at 130-128. With 1 second on the clock, Delaware’s Igor Milicic inbounded to Thomas, who hit a contested 25-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Capital City, visibly deflated, managed only a single field goal in the extra period—a layup by Livingston in the opening seconds. Delaware seized control with a 7-1 run, keyed by a 3-pointer from Allen and a driving layup from Tynes, to secure the victory.
The most important sequence of the game was undoubtedly the final seconds of regulation. Trailing by four with under 20 seconds to play, Delaware executed under immense pressure. Thomas’s three free throws under duress and his game-tying, buzzer-beating 3-pointer on a brilliantly designed play transformed an almost certain loss into a chance for victory, which the Blue Coats capitalized on in overtime.
Allen led all scorers for Delaware, demonstrating clutch shooting throughout the night. Labissiere was a force for Capital City, contributing significantly on both ends with his rebounding and playmaking. Livingston provided consistent offense for the Go-Go in the losing effort.
With the win, Delaware improved its season record to 21-27, while Capital City fell to 25-24. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch at the same venue on Saturday night.
