Valley vs. San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The San Diego Clippers used a dominant first half to power past the Valley Suns 131-115 in a G League matchup on Saturday night at Frontwave Arena.
The Clippers, improving to 26-22, seized control from the opening tip, erupting for 41 points in the first quarter. They extended their lead with a 36-point second quarter, entering halftime with a commanding 77-50 advantage. The offensive outburst proved insurmountable for the visiting Suns, who fell to 13-35 despite a valiant second-half effort where they outscored San Diego 65-54.
Valley guard Jaden Shackelford spearheaded the Suns’ attempt at a comeback, orchestrating the offense and finding his shot after the break. His backcourt mate, Zhuric Phelps, provided consistent scoring throughout the contest. For San Diego, center Norchad Omier set an overwhelming tone early, establishing a powerful presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. Point guard Sean Pedulla facilitated the Clippers’ high-octane attack with precision, while shooting guard Desmond Cambridge offered critical perimeter scoring, particularly during key stretches to halt Valley rallies.
The most pivotal phase of the game was unquestionably the first quarter, where San Diego built a foundation that Valley could never dismantle. The Clippers opened the game on a 17-0 run, a blitz that included a three-pointer and a driving dunk from Omier, a steal and a three from Pedulla, and a relentless effort on the offensive glass. Valley did not score until a Zhuric Phelps three-pointer with 8:56 remaining in the period, by which time the deficit was already 17 points.
This early explosion demoralized the Suns and allowed the Clippers to play with confidence and freedom. San Diego’s ball movement was crisp, resulting in easy looks, and their activity generated multiple second-chance opportunities. While Valley showed resilience by scoring 29, 32, and 33 points in the final three quarters, respectively, and even narrowly outscoring San Diego after the first period, the damage from the initial 12 minutes was too severe. Every Suns push in the second half was met with a timely response from the Clippers’ deep roster, whether a three-pointer from Cambridge, a finish inside from Omier, or a play from Jahmyl Telfort or Taylor Funk.
The victory gave San Diego a sweep of the two-game set against Valley this week, having also won 113-87 on Thursday. The Clippers will next host Stockton for a two-game series starting Friday. The Suns return home to face Mexico City in a back-to-back starting Tuesday.
