Raptors 905 vs. Rip City
PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Raptors 905 built a massive early lead and withstood a furious second-half rally from the Rip City Remix to secure a 126-117 victory in a G League contest Friday night at the Chiles Center.
The visiting Raptors, the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, dominated the opening period, racing to a 36-16 lead after one quarter behind efficient offense and disruptive defense. They extended their advantage to 74-47 at halftime, having scored 38 points in the second quarter. The Remix, the Portland Trail Blazers’ affiliate, committed numerous early turnovers and struggled to find an offensive rhythm.
The complexion of the game changed dramatically after halftime. Rip City emerged from the locker room with renewed energy, outscoring Raptors 905 40-30 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 104-87. The Remix surge continued into the fourth, where they pulled within single digits on multiple occasions, applying significant pressure on the league-leading Raptors.
The most critical sequence of the game came late in the fourth quarter as Rip City threatened to complete the comeback. After a Caleb Love layup brought the Remix within 117-109 with just over three minutes remaining, the Raptors responded with a decisive 7-0 run. Quincy Guerrier hit a crucial 3-pointer, followed by a Tyrese Samuel dunk off an AJ Hoggard assist, pushing the lead back to 124-109 with 1:33 left and effectively sealing the outcome.
Raptors 905 improved its season record to 35-12, maintaining its position atop the league standings. Rip City fell to 25-22 with the loss. The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch Saturday night at the same venue.
The game featured several lead changes in momentum but no lead changes on the scoreboard, as Raptors 905 led wire-to-wire. The Remix’s inability to overcome the disastrous first quarter, where they were outscored by 20 points, proved insurmountable despite outscoring the Raptors in both the second half and the final three quarters combined.
Key performers for the Remix included guards Caleb Love and Javonte Cooke, who spearheaded the second-half offensive explosion. For the Raptors, balanced scoring and steady play from Markelle Fultz and Alijah Martin helped stabilize the team during the Remix’s challenging runs.
According to the Interstat ELO system, Raptors 905 entered the game with a 53.30 percent probability to win.
