Iowa vs. Texas
Preview: Iowa Wolves at Texas Legends
FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Iowa Wolves squad visits the struggling Texas Legends in a G League matchup Friday night at Dr Pepper Arena.
The Wolves (25-20) enter on a high note after a dominant 132-106 victory over Salt Lake City on Monday. They will face a Legends team (18-28) that has shown recent life, winning three of its last four games, including a 108-104 triumph over Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday.
Iowa’s success is anchored by center Joan Beringer, who is in the midst of a dominant stretch. Over his last four games, Beringer is averaging 20.0 points and 15.3 rebounds, including an 18-point, 19-rebound performance in Monday’s win. His interior presence will be a primary focus for the Wolves.
Texas counters with high-scoring guard Dalano Banton, who has been on an offensive tear. Banton is averaging 26.4 points and 7.6 assists over his last nine contests. He dropped 36 points and dished 7 assists in Tuesday’s victory, following a 13-point, 14-assist double-double the night prior.
The teams represent opposite ends of the standings, with Iowa battling for playoff positioning and Texas looking to climb out of the cellar. The Wolves have split their last six games, while the Legends have gone 5-4 in their last nine after a prolonged slump.
Key contributors from Monday’s win for Iowa include Jalen Crutcher (22 points, 6 assists) and Zyon Pullin (16 points, 7 assists). Texas will rely on frontcourt support for Banton from Moussa Cisse, who posted 13 points and 16 rebounds Tuesday, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (14 points, 8 rebounds).
This game is the first of a quick home-and-home set, with the Wolves hosting the Legends in Iowa on Sunday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT Friday.
