Motor City vs. Wisconsin
OSHKOSH, Wis. (Interstat) — The Motor City Cruise used a dominant second quarter to build an insurmountable lead and cruised to a 123-105 victory over the Wisconsin Herd in a G League matchup Friday night at Oshkosh Arena.
The most important stretch of the game came in the second period, where the Cruise outscored the Herd 30-17 to turn a narrow four-point lead after one quarter into a 61-44 halftime advantage. Motor City’s defense stifled Wisconsin, forcing several turnovers and contested misses, while their offense found a consistent rhythm with contributions across the lineup.
Motor City maintained its offensive efficiency throughout the second half, scoring 32 points in the third quarter and 30 in the fourth to keep the Herd at bay. Wisconsin mounted a more potent offensive showing after halftime, led by a 33-point third quarter, but could never significantly cut into the deficit, trailing by double digits for the entire second half.
The Cruise improved to 24-21 across all competitions this season, while the Herd fell to 13-33.
Isaac Jones, the Cruise’s 6-foot-9 center, anchored the effort with a strong two-way performance, impacting the game with rebounds and blocked shots. John Ukomadu, a 6-7 small forward, provided key scoring bursts, particularly from the perimeter in the second half. Forwards Bobi Klintman and Drew Peterson facilitated the offense and scored efficiently.
Wisconsin was led by shooting guard Stevie Thompson, who battled for 6-foot-4, and point guard Kira Lewis. Forward Alex Antetokounmpo, standing 6-foot-8, worked inside for the Herd.
The game featured a frenetic opening quarter with both teams trading baskets and turnovers. The Cruise established an early edge behind the play of point guard Jaden Akins, a Farmington, Michigan, native, who created several scoring opportunities. The Herd stayed close through the first behind efforts from Thompson and Lacey James, but their offense stalled dramatically in the second period, setting the stage for Motor City’s decisive run.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again Saturday night in Oshkosh.
