BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal of a heartbreaking loss just 24 hours prior, the Birmingham Squadron used a dominant second half to overpower the Maine Celtics 122-106 in a G League contest Tuesday night at Legacy Arena.

The game’s most important sequence unfolded not in the final minutes, but in a decisive third-quarter surge that completely altered the contest’s trajectory. After trailing by 11 points at halftime, the Squadron erupted for 39 points in the third period, overwhelming the Celtics with a combination of efficient offense and stifling defense to seize control for good.

The first half belonged largely to Maine, which built a 59-48 lead behind a balanced attack and 33 points in the opening quarter. The Celtics appeared poised to avenge their agonizing 144-143 defeat on the same floor Monday night.

Everything changed after the break. Birmingham’s offense, which had been stagnant, found its rhythm immediately. The Squadron opened the third quarter on a 15-7 run to quickly cut into the deficit, fueled by the inside presence of Josh Oduro and the playmaking of Trey Alexander. The Celtics, who had shot confidently in the first half, began to misfire, and Birmingham capitalized with transition opportunities.

The turning point came midway through the quarter. With the Squadron’s momentum building, they unleashed a barrage that put the game out of reach. A critical sequence saw Hunter Dickinson, Birmingham’s 7-foot-1 center, connect on a 3-pointer, followed by a defensive stop and a driving layup from Alexander. The run ballooned, and by the time the third quarter ended, Birmingham had outscored Maine 39-25, transforming an 11-point deficit into a 87-84 lead.

The Squadron’s onslaught continued unabated in the fourth quarter, adding 35 more points to seal the victory. Dickinson was instrumental throughout the second half, impacting the game on both ends with his rebounding, shot-blocking, and ability to stretch the floor. Alexander orchestrated the offense, consistently breaking down the Maine defense.

For Maine, the loss was a case of lost momentum and an inability to counter Birmingham’s heightened intensity after halftime. The Celtics’ offense, which looked fluid early, became disjointed against Birmingham’s renewed defensive pressure.

With the win, Birmingham improved its season record to 19-28. Maine fell to 24-23. The two teams will not meet again in the regular season, concluding a back-to-back series that saw a one-point classic followed by a second-half demolition.

The Squadron are next scheduled to host the Windy City Bulls on Sunday. The Celtics will return home to face the Cleveland Charge on the same day.
