Texas vs. Oklahoma City
Struggling G League Teams Collide as Texas Visits Oklahoma City
OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — Two teams mired at the bottom of the G League standings will seek a rare victory when the Texas Legends face the Oklahoma City Blue on Saturday at Cox Convention Center.
The matchup features a pair of clubs with nearly identical dismal records. Texas arrives at 13-26, while Oklahoma City sits just a half-game behind at 13-27. Both are riding significant losing streaks, with the Legends having dropped eight consecutive games and the Blue coming off five straight losses.
The season series currently favors Texas, which routed Oklahoma City 110-84 on Jan. 2. The Blue, however, won two tightly contested games in Texas in November, including a 129-127 overtime thriller on Nov. 21.
A key matchup will be in the paint, where Texas center Jamarion Sharp looks to continue his dominant shot-blocking and rebounding. Sharp is coming off a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in a loss to Memphis on March 3. Over his last seven games, he has recorded 24 blocked shots.
Oklahoma City will counter with the scoring prowess of wing Zhaire Smith, who is averaging 21.4 points over his last five contests. Smith poured in 26 points in the Blue’s most recent loss to South Bay on March 4. He will be supported by guard Nikola Topic, who dished out 9 assists in that same game.
Both teams have struggled defensively during their slides. Texas has allowed an average of 120.6 points during its eight-game skid, while Oklahoma City has surrendered 128.8 per game over its five losses.
Saturday’s contest offers one of the few remaining chances for either club to build momentum before the season concludes later this month. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. local time.
