South Bay vs. Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (Interstat) — The South Bay Lakers delivered an offensive clinic, scoring at least 34 points in each of the first three quarters, to overwhelm the Santa Cruz Warriors 131-110 in a G League matchup Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

The game was effectively decided by halftime as the visiting Lakers built a commanding 70-54 lead. South Bay’s offensive execution was relentless from the opening tip, posting 34 points in the first quarter, 36 in the second and 35 in the third before closing with 26 in the final period. Santa Cruz, despite scoring 31 points in both the first and fourth quarters, could not match the sustained firepower, managing only 23 and 25 points in the middle two frames.

The most important stretch of the game came late in the first quarter and extended through the second, where South Bay transformed a close contest into a substantial lead. After Santa Cruz’s Chance McMillian hit a 27-foot three-pointer to pull the Warriors within 24-22 with 8:48 remaining in the first, the Lakers seized control. South Bay closed the opening period on a 10-5 run, capped by a Malik Williams running dunk with six seconds left, to take a 34-31 advantage.

The Lakers then blew the game open in the second quarter with a dominant 36-point performance. Key plays included a steal and three-pointer from Zach Hicks, a three-pointer from Arthur Kaluma, and a series of assists and finishes from Nick Smith and R.J. Davis. This surge pushed the lead to 20 points on multiple occasions, and the Warriors never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

South Bay’s offensive balance was on full display, with ball movement and outside shooting proving too much for the Santa Cruz defense. The Lakers consistently found open looks and capitalized on Warriors turnovers, converting them into easy transition opportunities.

With the victory, South Bay improved its season record to 25 wins and 15 losses, solidifying its position as a top team in the Western Conference. Santa Cruz fell to 14-26 with the loss.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again at the same venue on Sunday.
