Grand Rapids vs. Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (Interstat) — The Delaware Blue Coats used a dominant fourth-quarter surge to pull away from the Grand Rapids Gold for a 124-112 victory in a G League matchup Sunday at 76ers Fieldhouse.

The game, a back-and-forth affair for three quarters, turned decisively in the final period. Delaware outscored Grand Rapids 33-22 in the fourth, fueled by a balanced offensive attack and key defensive stops that stifled the Gold’s rhythm.

The most important part of the game was Delaware’s decisive 15-2 run early in the fourth quarter that broke open a tight contest. Leading 91-90 entering the final period, the Blue Coats saw their lead cut to one point multiple times in the opening minutes. However, with just over eight minutes remaining, Delaware ignited. A 3-pointer from Teddy Allen, followed by a running jumper from Allen and a driving layup from Saint Thomas, quickly extended the lead to eight. The run was capped by a Tyrese Martin layup, giving the Blue Coats a 106-95 advantage with 6:45 to play and forcing a Grand Rapids timeout. The Gold never recovered, as Delaware’s defense tightened and their ball movement generated high-percentage shots, effectively sealing the outcome.

Delaware set the tone early, sprinting to a 36-27 lead after the first quarter behind hot outside shooting. Grand Rapids responded with a strong second quarter, pouring in 36 points to take a 63-60 lead into halftime. The third quarter was a tightly contested battle, with Delaware edging it 28-27 to enter the fourth down just two points, setting the stage for the final-quarter explosion.

Tyrese Martin led the Blue Coats with a versatile performance, facilitating the offense and hitting timely shots. MarJon Beauchamp provided consistent scoring and defensive energy, while Saint Thomas contributed key baskets and rebounds off the bench, particularly during the clinching run.

For Grand Rapids, center Moses Brown was a force inside, using his size to score and control the glass. Coleman Hawkins orchestrated the offense for long stretches, dishing out assists and scoring when needed. Dane Goodwin provided perimeter scoring, but the Gold’s offense stalled when it mattered most in the face of Delaware’s intensified defensive pressure.

With the win, Delaware improved its season record to 17-20. Grand Rapids fell to 18-22. The teams split a two-game weekend series after Delaware won decisively on Saturday.

Delaware next hosts the Westchester Knicks on Wednesday. Grand Rapids returns home to face the Capital City Go-Go on Tuesday.
