Grand Rapids vs. Delaware
WILMINGTON, Del. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt recent slides will meet when the Grand Rapids Gold visit the Delaware Blue Coats in a G League matchup Saturday at 76ers Fieldhouse.
The Gold (17-20) have lost seven of their last nine games, including a 109-97 home loss to Osceola on Monday. Delaware (15-20) has dropped two of three, most recently falling 102-101 to Maine last Saturday.
Grand Rapids will lean on guard Dane Goodwin, who has been a consistent bright spot during the team’s struggles. He is averaging 20.1 points and 5.1 rebounds over his last nine games, including a 36-point, 10-rebound performance in a narrow loss to Westchester on Feb. 19. In Monday’s defeat, Goodwin posted 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Blue Coats counter with forward DeAndre Williams, who has been a dominant force on the boards. Williams has recorded a double-double in five consecutive games, averaging 23.2 points and 12.0 rebounds over that stretch. He tallied 25 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in the one-point loss to Maine.
Grand Rapids center Moses Brown, who had 19 points and 10 rebounds Monday, and Delaware’s Johni Broome, who scored 27 points against Maine, will be key interior factors.
This is the first of two meetings between the teams in three days; they will rematch at the same venue Sunday. Both clubs are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and seeking momentum for the final month of the regular season.
Saturday’s tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
