Austin vs. San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout that saw 267 combined points, the San Diego Clippers outlasted the Austin Spurs 135-132 on Friday night at Frontwave Arena, avenging an overtime loss from the previous evening.
The game turned on a dominant second-quarter surge by the home team. After trailing by 17 points following a 36-point first quarter by Austin, the Clippers erupted for 47 points in the second period to seize control. The Clippers’ offense, led by a blistering performance from guard Jaelen House, overwhelmed the Spurs during the frame, flipping a double-digit deficit into a 100-103 halftime lead for San Diego.
House finished with a game-high 45 points and eight assists, orchestrating the Clippers’ attack. He was supported by Jahmyl Telfort, who added 24 points, and a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds from Norchad Omier. Sean Pedulla contributed 20 points off the bench.
Despite the loss, Austin’s Harrison Ingram delivered a historic all-around performance. The power forward recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 20 rebounds and 14 assists, anchoring the Spurs’ effort. Donovan Williams led Austin scorers with 42 points and 11 rebounds, while Kyle Mangas added 24 points.
The Spurs, who fell to 25-10, never fully recovered from San Diego’s second-quarter explosion. They closed the gap to a single possession multiple times in the final minutes but could not overtake the Clippers. A critical sequence in the final half-minute sealed the outcome. With San Diego leading 133-130, Ingram’s driving layup was blocked by Omier with 28 seconds left. After a San Diego timeout, the Clippers secured the defensive rebound and closed the game at the free-throw line.
The contest was a statistical mirror in many areas, with both teams taking nearly identical field goal attempts and making 45 shots. The difference came at the foul line, where San Diego made 19 of 25 attempts compared to Austin’s 12 of 19, and from three-point range, where the Spurs’ 23 makes on 50 attempts were offset by the Clippers’ superior efficiency, shooting 15 for 40.
San Diego, which improved to 20-18, won despite being out-rebounded 50-48 and committing 23 fouls to Austin’s 30. The victory splits a brief two-game home set between the teams after Austin’s 116-115 overtime win on Thursday.
The most important part of the game was unquestionably the second quarter. The Clippers’ 47-point outburst, a 28-point swing from the end of the first period, completely altered the game’s trajectory. It showcased an offensive explosion that Austin, despite several rallies, could not ultimately overcome, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish that saw the Clippers secure a narrow three-point win.
