Rio Grande Valley vs. Texas

FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Rio Grande Valley Vipers squad will look to extend its winning streak against a struggling Texas Legends team when the G League rivals meet Thursday night at Dr Pepper Arena.

The Vipers (19-13) enter on a three-game win streak, most recently edging the Austin Spurs 112-111 on Saturday behind a dominant performance from guard Daishen Nix. The Legends (13-21), meanwhile, have lost four of their last five, including a 111-109 home loss to Stockton on Saturday.

Nix is the engine for Rio Grande Valley, averaging 20.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. He is coming off a 31-point, 11-rebound, 7-assist effort and has recorded two triple-doubles in his last seven contests. His playmaking will be central to the Vipers’ high-octane offense, which has scored 126 or more points in four of its last six victories.

Texas will counter with guard Ryan Nembhard, who has been a bright spot during the team’s skid. He averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 assists in the two close losses to Stockton last weekend. The Legends will need a major defensive effort to slow the Vipers, as they allow an average of 113.9 points per game.

The season series is tied 1-1. Texas won 119-110 in Rio Grande Valley on Nov. 13, but the Vipers returned the favor with a 133-126 home victory two days later on Nov. 15.

Rio Grande Valley holds a clear advantage in the standings and recent form, but will be tested on the road. Texas, seeking to stop its slide, will aim to protect its home court and split the season series. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
