San Diego vs. South Bay

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Interstat) — A dominant second-half offensive explosion propelled the South Bay Lakers to a 128-116 victory over the San Diego Clippers in a G League matchup Wednesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center.

The game turned decisively in the third quarter. After trailing 62-55 at halftime, the Lakers erupted for 38 points in the period, seizing control with a combination of efficient shooting and forced turnovers. The Clippers, who had led by as many as 11 points in the first half, saw their offense stagnate against a tightened South Bay defense, managing only 32 points in the quarter.

South Bay’s surge was fueled by balanced scoring and superior shot-making. The Lakers shot a blistering 60% from the field for the game, including 15 of 36 from three-point range. Tevian Jones came off the bench to lead all scorers with 24 points, while Drew Timme added 20. Point guard R.J. Davis, the top star for South Bay, orchestrated the offense with 18 points and five assists before fouling out.

San Diego guard John Poulakidas kept his team within striking distance with a game-high 30 points, fueled by six three-pointers. Jaelen House recorded a double-double with 18 points and 17 assists for the Clippers. Despite their efforts, San Diego could not counter South Bay’s relentless efficiency, particularly in the paint where the Lakers held a 66-44 scoring advantage.

The most important part of the game was South Bay’s third-quarter run, which flipped a seven-point deficit into a 93-88 lead entering the final frame. The Lakers opened the quarter on a 15-8 run to tie the game and never looked back, extending their lead by capitalizing on Clippers’ miscues and finding easy baskets in transition. San Diego committed six of its 12 turnovers in the period, which South Bay converted into 10 points.

The fourth quarter saw South Bay maintain its offensive rhythm, scoring 35 points to put the game out of reach. The Lakers’ ball movement was exceptional, resulting in several open looks, including key three-pointers from Jones and Luke Goode down the stretch. Anton Watson was instrumental in the closing minutes, scoring nine of his 15 points in the final quarter and adding seven rebounds and six assists.

With the win, South Bay improved its season record to 18-15, while San Diego fell to 19-17. The Lakers have now won two of the three meetings between the teams this season.

South Bay next travels to face the Texas Legends on Friday, Feb. 20. San Diego returns home to host the Austin Spurs on Thursday, Feb. 19.
