Birmingham vs. Capital City

Birmingham Squadron Seek Upset Against Capital City Go-Go

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Capital City Go-Go look to solidify their position above .500 when they host the struggling Birmingham Squadron in a G League matchup Saturday at CareFirst Arena.

The Go-Go (16-15) enter on a positive note, edging the South Bay Lakers 115-114 on Friday night. They will face a Squadron team (10-24) mired in a three-game losing skid, most recently a 125-109 defeat at Noblesville on Feb. 1.

Capital City’s frontcourt will be anchored by veteran big man Skal Labissiere, who is coming off a 29-point, six-rebound performance in a loss to South Bay on Wednesday. Over his last seven games, Labissiere has averaged 16.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks, showcasing a versatile inside-out game.

Birmingham’s hopes likely rest with high-usage guard Trey Alexander, who has been a bright spot during the team’s difficult season. Alexander is averaging 22.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists over his last seven contests. He posted a near triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a narrow loss to Greensboro on Jan. 19 and scored 28 points in the Feb. 1 loss.

In their last outing, Alexander led Birmingham with 28 points and eight rebounds, supported by double-doubles from Christian Shumate (20 points, 13 rebounds) and Keion Brooks (20 points, 10 rebounds). Replicating that interior production will be crucial against Labissiere and the Go-Go.

The teams will meet again in Washington on Feb. 24. Following Saturday’s game, the Squadron begin a two-game set at Wisconsin on Monday, while the Go-Go travel for a two-game series at Greensboro starting Wednesday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
