Iowa vs. Stockton
STOCKTON, Calif. (Interstat) — A clash of Western Conference contenders highlights the G League schedule Tuesday when the Iowa Wolves visit the Stockton Kings at Stockton Arena.
Both teams enter with 19 wins, though Stockton (19-9) holds a significant advantage in winning percentage and sits higher in the standings than Iowa (19-13). The matchup features two of the league’s most productive big men in contrasting stretches of form.
Iowa is powered by forward Alize Johnson, who is coming off a historic performance. In Saturday’s 127-123 overtime win at Santa Cruz, Johnson recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. It capped a dominant January where he averaged a double-double, including a 41-point, 10-rebound outing on Jan. 15. The Wolves have won seven of their last 10 games, showcasing a high-powered offense that has scored 127 or more points in four of their last five victories.
Stockton counters with center Jaylin Williams, who is coming off a strong double-double of his own. In Thursday’s 119-115 road win over Austin, Williams posted 22 points and 10 rebounds in just 26 minutes. The Kings have been consistent at home and are well-rested, having not played since that Jan. 29 victory.
The Wolves’ recent success has relied heavily on Johnson’s all-around play and backcourt support from Jalen Crutcher, who had 22 points and nine assists against Santa Cruz. Stockton’s attack is more balanced, with guard Isaiah Stevens averaging 15 points and eight assists in their last outing and forward Daeqwon Plowden adding 18 points.
This game is the first of two meetings between the teams this month, with a rematch scheduled in Stockton on Feb. 25. For Iowa, it’s the start of a tough road stretch. For Stockton, it’s a chance to protect home court and solidify their position near the top of the conference.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. PST Tuesday at Stockton Arena.
