College Park vs. San Diego

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — In a frenetic G League contest that saw 18 lead changes and required every second of regulation, the San Diego Clippers edged the College Park Skyhawks 112-111 on Friday night at Frontwave Arena.

The game was decided in the final chaotic moments. Trailing by a point, the Skyhawks had a final possession with 2.4 seconds remaining. RayJ Dennis drove the lane, but his contested layup was blocked by San Diego’s John Poulakidas. The loose ball was gathered by College Park’s Nikola Durisic, whose rushed put-back attempt at the buzzer was off the mark, sealing the Clippers’ narrow victory.

The contest was a tale of explosive runs and resilient responses. College Park, the visiting team, opened the game on fire, racing to a 17-5 lead behind hot shooting from Caleb Houstan and RayJ Dennis. The Skyhawks maintained control for much of the first half, leading by as many as 14 points and taking a 67-59 advantage into halftime after shooting 58% from the field in the opening two quarters.

San Diego’s comeback was fueled by balance and defensive adjustments. After the early deficit, the Clippers chipped away in the second quarter, closing the gap to a single possession several times before the Skyhawks’ late first-half surge. The third quarter became a back-and-forth affair, with San Diego finally wresting the lead away midway through the period on a Jahmyl Telfort three-pointer.

The fourth quarter featured eight lead changes. With just over six minutes to play and the score tied at 99, San Diego’s defense catalyzed a decisive 6-0 run in under 30 seconds. Hunter Sallis stole the ball from Dennis and finished with a running dunk. On the ensuing inbound pass, Jaelen House picked Dennis again, leading to another Sallis fast-break layup, forcing a College Park timeout and giving the Clippers a 103-99 cushion they would not fully relinquish.

College Park, showing the fight of a team that has now lost five straight and 10 of its last 11, refused to fold. They clawed back to tie the game at 106 on a Durisic layup with 3:35 remaining. The teams traded baskets until Patrick Baldwin’s three-pointer with 2:13 left put San Diego ahead for good at 111-108. A Dennis driving jumper brought College Park back within one point with 2:53 left, setting the stage for the defensive stand on the final possession.

San Diego (15-15) was led by a collective effort. John Poulakidas provided critical scoring, while Hunter Sallis’s late-game steals and finishes were pivotal. Patrick Baldwin and Jaelen House facilitated the offense throughout, helping the Clippers overcome their slow start.

College Park (8-21) was paced by a strong performance from center Basheer Jihad, who provided interior presence on both ends. RayJ Dennis orchestrated the offense effectively for much of the night, and Malik Williams anchored the defense with multiple blocks. Despite the loss, the Skyhawks’ 111-point output was a marked improvement offensively after being held under 100 points in three of their previous four games.

The two teams will meet again at Frontwave Arena on Saturday night.
