Mexico City vs. Iowa

Clash of Identical Records Set for Des Moines as Iowa Hosts Mexico City

DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — Two teams riding opposite waves of momentum will meet with identical records when the Iowa Wolves host the Mexico City Capitanes in a G League matchup Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

Both teams sit at 17-12, but they arrive coming off vastly different performances. The Wolves are buoyed by a high-scoring 136-129 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Monday. Meanwhile, the Capitanes are looking to rebound from a decisive 125-95 road loss to the South Bay Lakers on Saturday.

The game features a compelling backcourt duel between two of the league’s hottest guards. Iowa’s Jules Bernard enters on a torrid scoring pace, averaging 27.6 points over his last five games. His most recent outing was a masterpiece: 28 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in Saturday’s win over Memphis.

For Mexico City, the catalyst is Boo Buie. The point guard has been a model of consistency, scoring in double figures in 10 straight games and averaging 19.2 points and 4.9 assists over that span. He led the Capitanes with 22 points and six assists in the loss to South Bay.

Despite the Capitanes’ recent stumble, their overall form has been strong, winning eight of their last 12 games. The Wolves have been similarly successful, securing victories in seven of their last ten contests. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Iowa holds a slight edge as the projected favorite with a 54.7% probability to win.

This contest is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. They are scheduled to meet again in Des Moines on Feb. 27. For Iowa, this begins a stretch of three games in four nights before a lengthy road trip. The Capitanes continue a six-game road swing before returning home on Feb. 1.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST at Wells Fargo Arena.
