Rip City vs. Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas (Interstat) -- The Rio Grande Valley Vipers used a dominant second-half offensive surge to pull away from the Rip City Remix for a 134-112 victory in a G League game Saturday night at Bert Ogden Arena.

The win gave the Vipers a two-game sweep of the back-to-back set after a 108-99 victory on Thursday and improved their season record to 16-12. The Remix fell to 16-13.

The most important segment of the game came in the third quarter, where the Vipers turned a narrow 57-48 halftime lead into a commanding advantage. After Rip City’s Andrew Carr opened the second-half scoring with a dunk, Rio Grande Valley unleashed a 25-10 run over the next five minutes. The burst was fueled by precise ball movement and hot outside shooting, with John Knight and Tyler Smith each hitting a pair of three-pointers during the stretch. A Stevie Mitchell jumper with 3:20 left in the quarter capped the run, giving the Vipers an 88-70 lead from which the Remix would not recover.

The Vipers’ offensive execution was relentless, scoring 38 points in the third quarter and 39 in the fourth. They consistently answered any modest Rip City push with timely baskets, maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the final period.

Tristen Newton led a balanced Vipers attack, demonstrating sharp shooting from beyond the arc. John Knight provided consistent scoring, particularly during the decisive third-quarter run. Caleb McConnell was a disruptive force defensively while contributing key baskets, and Tyler Smith offered interior scoring and rebounding.

For the Remix, Blake Hinson and Sean Pedulla provided offensive sparks, but the team struggled to string together defensive stops. Cameron Parker facilitated the offense with several assists, and Alex Reese scored in bursts, but Rip City could not match the Vipers’ sustained firepower.

The game began competitively, with the Vipers holding a 31-21 lead after one quarter. Rip City fought back in the second, cutting the deficit to nine by halftime, but the Vipers’ explosive third quarter proved insurmountable.

The Vipers next play at Iowa on Monday. The Remix return home to face Texas on Monday.
