San Diego vs. Mexico City

Preview: San Diego Clippers at Mexico City Capitanes

MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — The Mexico City Capitanes will seek to avenge a recent home loss when they host the San Diego Clippers in a G League matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at Estadio Azteca.

The game is a quick rematch, as the visiting Clippers (14-12) defeated the Capitanes (15-11) 115-96 in the same venue just two days prior. That result snapped Mexico City’s seven-game winning streak and handed San Diego a measure of momentum after dropping its previous two contests.

A key matchup will feature two forwards playing at a high level. San Diego’s Derek Ogbeide is coming off a 30-minute, 13-point, 8-rebound performance in a loss to Windy City on Jan. 15. Over his last eight games, he has averaged 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds.

He will be countered by Mexico City’s Andersson Garcia, who has been a force during the Capitanes’ hot stretch. In a 139-102 rout of Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 14, Garcia posted a dominant 20-point, 18-rebound double-double. Over his last 10 games, he has averaged 12.6 points and 7.7 rebounds for a Mexico City squad that has won nine of its last eleven.

The Clippers have shown resilience on the road recently, with narrow victories at Long Island and Raptors 905 earlier this month. However, consistency has been an issue, as evidenced by Sunday’s win in Mexico City followed by a 27-point home loss two days earlier.

The Capitanes, aside from Sunday’s stumble, have been one of the league’s hottest teams, averaging over 122 points per game during their recent run. How they respond to the rare home defeat will be a focal point.

Tuesday’s contest has implications in the Western Conference standings, where the two teams are separated by just one game in the win column. Following this game, Mexico City begins a two-game road trip at South Bay on Thursday, while San Diego returns home to face Oklahoma City on Friday.
