Memphis vs. Rip City
PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — In a game defined by relentless runs and crucial plays in the final minute, the Rip City Remix edged the Memphis Hustle 108-105 in a G League contest Sunday at Chiles Center.
The most pivotal sequence unfolded in the closing 17 seconds with the score tied. After Memphis guard DeJon Jarreau drove for a layup to knot the game at 107, Rip City’s Sean Pedulla was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play. The Remix point guard, who had a key performance, calmly sank both free throws to put the home team back ahead by two.
Memphis called a timeout to advance the ball but turned it over on the inbound pass. Pedulla was again fouled and made the first of two free throws with four seconds left for a three-point lead. Following a miss on the second attempt, Memphis secured the rebound and called its final timeout.
Needing a three to force overtime, the Hustle inbounded to Nate Hinton, but his contested 23-foot jumper from the wing missed as time expired, sealing the victory for Rip City.
The game was a back-and-forth affair throughout. Rip City built an early lead, ending the first quarter up 29-26, but Memphis stayed within striking distance. The Hustle’s offense found a rhythm in the second half, particularly from beyond the arc, to keep pace with a efficient Remix attack.
Pedulla was instrumental for Rip City down the stretch, not only with his late free throws but also with his playmaking and scoring throughout the contest. His backcourt management in the final minutes helped the Remix maintain their composure.
For Memphis, Jarreau and Evan Gilyard provided significant backcourt production, while Lawson Lovering anchored the interior with several key baskets and rebounds. Tyler Burton also contributed timely scoring for the Hustle.
The loss extends a difficult stretch for Memphis, which falls to 8-16 on the season. The Hustle have now lost four consecutive games and eight of their last ten. Rip City improves to 15-11 with the win, solidifying its position in the league standings.
The two teams will meet again in a quick rematch Monday at Chiles Center.
