Stockton vs. Long Island
Preview: Stockton Kings at Long Island Nets
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The surging Stockton Kings visit the .500 Long Island Nets in a G League matchup Monday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Stockton (14-8) enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently a 123-110 road victory at Westchester on Friday. The Kings have won five of their last seven. Long Island (11-11) looks to build momentum after a 121-112 home win over Wisconsin on Friday, which snapped a two-game skid.
A key matchup will feature two of the league’s recent standout performers. Stockton center Gabe Levin is coming off a dominant 28-point, 14-rebound effort in 29 minutes against Westchester. Over his last five games, he is averaging 12.8 points and 9.8 rebounds.
He will be countered by Long Island guard Malachi Smith, who erupted for 36 points, six rebounds and nine assists in Friday’s win. Smith has averaged 23.0 points and 7.5 assists over his last four contests.
Stockton’s offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 120.3 points over the last three games. Point guard Jon Elmore, who had a triple-double with 13 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds Friday, facilitates an attack that features four players averaging double-figure scoring this season.
Long Island has shown resilience at home, going 7-4 at the Coliseum this season. They will rely on forwards Jeenathan Williams and Tre Scott, who combined for 35 points and 16 rebounds in the win over Wisconsin, to provide balance alongside Smith’s backcourt production.
This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the affiliates of the Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets this season. Stockton begins a three-game road trip with this contest, while Long Island opens a brief two-game homestand before heading out for a five-game trip.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
