Osceola vs. Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — The Osceola Magic used a dominant first quarter to set the tone and never looked back, cruising to a 112-95 victory over the Birmingham Squadron in a G League game Saturday night at Legacy Arena.

The most important part of the game was its opening minutes, as Osceola established immediate and overwhelming control. The Magic’s defensive intensity completely stifled the Squadron from the opening tip, holding Birmingham to just nine points in the first quarter while building a 20-9 lead. Birmingham committed eight turnovers in the period, including two quick bad-pass turnovers by center Hunter Dickinson, and shot miserably from the field as Osceola raced ahead.

Osceola’s Lester Quinones sparked the early run, hitting a 28-foot 3-pointer and a driving layup in the first two minutes. Birmingham’s offense was disjointed, failing to score until a Josh Oduro layup with 10:13 remaining in the quarter, by which time they already trailed 11-0. The Magic’s defense forced shot clock violations and bad passes, converting the pressure into transition opportunities. Justin Minaya was active early for Osceola, contributing a steal and defensive rebound during the stifling opening stretch.

The Squadron showed signs of life in the second quarter, outscoring Osceola 30-31 behind improved shooting from Johnny O’Neil and Hunter Dickinson, but they could never seriously threaten the Magic’s lead. Every time Birmingham attempted to build momentum, Osceola answered with a run-stopping basket. The Magic led 51-39 at halftime and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the second half, extending their lead to as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter.

Osceola’s offense was balanced and efficient, scoring at least 30 points in three of the four quarters. The Magic improved their season record to 15-8 with the win, while Birmingham fell to 9-15.

The victory completed a two-game road sweep for Osceola, who also defeated the Squadron 111-106 on Thursday night. The Magic have now won three of the four meetings between the teams this season.

Osceola next travels to face the College Park Skyhawks on Monday. Birmingham will remain at home to host Raptors 905 on Sunday.
