Rip City vs. Salt Lake City
SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — The surging Salt Lake City Stars, owners of the G League’s best record, will host the Rip City Remix in a Western Conference matchup on Saturday at Bruin Arena.
The Stars (16-2) have won eight consecutive games and are a dominant 9-1 on their home court. They last played on Wednesday, rolling to a 144-130 victory over Memphis behind a stellar 39-point, 8-assist performance from guard E.J. Harkless. Harkless is averaging 29.8 points over his last five games and torched the Remix for 34 points in a 174-146 win on Dec. 11.
The visiting Remix (10-9) are looking to rebound from a narrow 129-126 home loss to Osceola on New Year’s Eve. Despite the defeat, forward Andrew Carr posted a massive double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Carr has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double (16.6 points, 10.1 rebounds) over his last 10 contests.
This game is the third meeting between the teams this season, with the series split 1-1. The Remix won the first encounter 133-122 on Dec. 9 before the Stars responded with the 28-point rout two days later. They also faced each other Friday night, with results from that contest pending.
Salt Lake City’s offense has been historically potent, leading the league with an average of 138.2 points per game. Their Dec. 11 output of 174 points set a franchise record. Containing that attack will be the primary challenge for a Rip City defense allowing 122.2 points per game.
The Stars continue their homestand before a four-game road trip beginning Jan. 8. The Remix, concluding a two-game set in Utah, will travel to face Sioux Falls on Jan. 9.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Saturday.
