Sioux Falls vs. Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — Jahmir Young scored 31 points and orchestrated a decisive second-quarter turnaround as the Sioux Falls Skyforce erased a large early deficit to defeat the Iowa Wolves 120-114 in a G League game Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Wolves, propelled by a blistering first-quarter offensive display, built a commanding 42-29 lead after the opening period. Iowa shot efficiently from the field and dominated the paint early, with Joan Beringer and Alize Johnson combining for several early baskets. The Skyforce appeared staggered, unable to match Iowa’s initial pace.

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter. Sioux Falls unleashed a 37-point period while clamping down defensively, holding Iowa to just 24 points. The surge was fueled by Keshad Johnson, who scored 15 of his 27 points in the quarter, and the steady playmaking of Young. The Skyforce turned defensive stops into transition opportunities and found their rhythm from beyond the arc, eventually taking a 66-64 lead into halftime.

Sioux Falls maintained its advantage through a tightly contested third quarter, which ended with Iowa holding a narrow 96-88 lead. The final period saw the Skyforce execute down the stretch. With the game in the balance, Young and center Vladislav Goldin took over. Young, the Skyforce point guard, consistently broke down the defense, scoring or assisting on key possessions. Goldin provided crucial interior play, finishing with 24 points, 14 rebounds and five assists, including several pivotal offensive rebounds and put-backs in the closing minutes.

Iowa made several pushes, closing the gap to two points late, but Sioux Falls answered each challenge. Bez Mbeng’s driving layup and free throws in the final minute helped seal the victory. Young’s final two free throws with six seconds remaining provided the final margin.

For Iowa, Alize Johnson led the way with 28 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Crutcher added 24 points and 12 assists, and Jules Bernard contributed 21 points. The Wolves’ early 13-point lead ultimately vanished under the Skyforce’s sustained second-quarter pressure and clutch fourth-quarter performance.

With the win, Sioux Falls improved its season record to 12-8, while Iowa fell to 11-9. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Des Moines on Sunday.
