Santa Cruz vs. Austin

AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The Austin Spurs, one of the NBA G League’s top teams, host the struggling Santa Cruz Warriors in a New Year’s Eve matchup Wednesday at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

The game presents a stark contrast in fortunes. Austin (13-4) sits among the league’s elite, while Santa Cruz (3-15) seeks to halt a prolonged skid. The Warriors have lost five of their last six, including a 106-96 home loss to the Osceola Magic on Sunday.

Austin is coming off a 109-105 victory over the Mexico City Capitals on Saturday. Forward Harrison Ingram has been a force, averaging a double-double over his last six games. He is fresh off a 26-point, 14-rebound performance and will be a primary focus for the Spurs’ attack.

Santa Cruz will look to forward Malevy Leons to provide a spark. He is coming off a 20-point, 9-rebound effort in Sunday’s loss and has scored 19 or more points in four of his last six contests. Guard Chance McMillian, who had 15 points off the bench Sunday, and center Charles Bassey are other key contributors.

The Spurs have dominated recent play, winning eight of their last ten. Their offense, which has scored 117 or more points in seven of those games, will test a Santa Cruz defense that has allowed an average of 114.8 points per game this season.

This is the first of a two-game set between the teams at Cedar Park, with a rematch scheduled for Friday.
