Valley vs. Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout Monday night, the Salt Lake City Stars showcased their offensive firepower and league-best record, outlasting the visiting Valley Suns 140-127 at Bruin Arena.

The game was decided by a dominant first-half performance from the home team. Salt Lake City erupted for 79 points by halftime, building a 79-66 lead that the Suns could never overcome. The Stars’ offensive engine was humming from the opening tip, scoring 39 points in the first quarter and 40 in the second, consistently answering any Valley push with a barrage of baskets.

Valley, which fell to 3-10, displayed persistent scoring throughout, putting up 34, 32, 33 and 28 points across the four quarters. However, they could not string together enough defensive stops to close the gap against a Salt Lake City team that improved to 11-2.

The most important stretch of the game occurred late in the second quarter, when the Stars effectively sealed the outcome. Leading 71-69 with under three minutes to play in the half, Salt Lake City ignited a critical 8-0 run. It began with a Mo Bamba alley-oop dunk from John Tonje, followed by a Sean East 3-pointer. After a Valley free throw, Tonje converted a driving layup and the ensuing free throw after a foul. The surge gave the Stars a 79-71 advantage, and they carried a 79-66 lead into the locker room after Rasheer Fleming hit a 3-pointer for Valley just before the buzzer.

That late second-quarter burst provided Salt Lake City with a cushion that proved insurmountable. The Suns never got closer than nine points in the second half, as the Stars’ balanced attack and efficient execution kept them at bay. Every time Valley threatened to build momentum, Salt Lake City responded with a timely 3-pointer or a basket at the rim.

Key performers for the Stars included point guard Sean East, whose playmaking and scoring fueled the offense, and center Mohamed Bamba, who provided interior defense and floor-spacing. For the Suns, Jaden Shackelford led the scoring effort, while JaQuori McLaughlin orchestrated the offense with multiple assists.

The two teams will meet again Tuesday night at Bruin Arena for a quick rematch.
