Maine vs. Capital City
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Capital City Go-Go delivered a commanding and decisive response to a recent defeat, overwhelming the Maine Celtics 111-77 in a G League matchup Friday night at CareFirst Arena.
Just two days after falling to Maine by 11 points on their home floor, the Go-Go flipped the script entirely. The game’s defining stretch arrived in the third quarter, where Capital City transformed a competitive contest into a lopsided affair. Leading 47-34 at halftime, the Go-Go erupted for 36 points in the third period, outscoring the Celtics by 17 and effectively putting the game out of reach. The offensive surge built upon a strong first half where Capital City never trailed, establishing a 25-17 lead after one quarter and steadily expanding it.
The Go-Go’s offensive execution was sharp and multifaceted, particularly in the paint and from beyond the arc during their pivotal third-quarter run. This stood in stark contrast to a Celtics offense that struggled with consistency and ball security throughout the night. Maine’s 24-point fourth quarter, their highest of the game, came largely after the outcome had been settled.
The victory improved Capital City’s record to 5-7, while Maine, which entered the game with the superior record and a 66.4 percent win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, fell to 9-4. The teams will complete their three-game series in Portland on Jan. 3.
Capital City’s performance was a collective effort, with significant contributions across the roster. The interior presence was established early, and the perimeter shooting capitalized on the space created inside. Defensively, the Go-Go generated numerous turnovers and disrupted Maine’s offensive flow, particularly during the game-changing third quarter.
For Maine, the loss snapped a positive run of form and highlighted difficulties in matching Capital City’s intensity and shot-making on the road. The Celtics will look to regroup quickly as they return home to face Raptors 905 on Sunday. Capital City also plays Sunday, hosting Delaware.
