Delaware vs. Raptors 905
Preview: Blue Coats Face Undefeated Raptors 905 in G League Showdown
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (Interstat) — The Delaware Blue Coats face a formidable challenge Wednesday night when they visit the undefeated Raptors 905 in a G League matchup at Hershey Centre.
The game pits teams at opposite ends of the standings. Raptors 905 (10-0) is the league’s only remaining unbeaten team, while Delaware (3-7) has lost seven of its last nine games, including a 137-135 overtime heartbreaker to Long Island on Saturday.
Delaware will rely on the dynamic play of guard Kennedy Chandler, who is amid a stellar individual stretch. Over his last 10 games, Chandler is averaging 21.1 points and 9.8 assists per contest. He is coming off a 19-point, 16-assist performance in the overtime loss and has recorded a double-double in points and assists in five of his last six outings.
“He’s the engine for them,” Raptors 905 head coach Eric Khoury said of Chandler. “Our focus starts with containing his penetration and playmaking.”
Raptors 905 counters with its own high-flying scorer in Alijah Martin. The guard is averaging 20.8 points per game and is fresh off a season-high 32-point effort in Friday’s 124-120 win over Capital City. Martin has scored 30 or more points twice in the team’s last four games, providing consistent offense for the league’s top team.
“We’re playing with confidence, but we respect every opponent,” Martin said after a recent practice. “Delaware has explosive players. We have to be ready from the jump.”
The Blue Coats showed resilience in their last outing, with center Johni Broome adding 22 points and 10 rebounds alongside Chandler’s big night. They will need a similar collective effort to challenge a deep Raptors 905 squad that features additional weapons like A.J. Lawson, who scored 36 points Friday, and playmaker Chucky Hepburn.
The game is the first of a back-to-back set between the teams, with a rematch scheduled for Thursday at the same venue.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
