Salt Lake City vs. Rip City

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — Blake Hinson scored 39 points and the Rip City Remix used a dominant second-quarter surge to overcome an early deficit and defeat the Salt Lake City Stars 133-122 in a G League game Tuesday night at the Chiles Center.

The Remix, who entered the game as significant underdogs according to predictive metrics, snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 6-4. The Stars, who had the league’s best record, fell to 9-2.

The most critical sequence of the game came in the second quarter, when Rip City transformed a tight contest into a commanding lead. Trailing 63-55 with under three minutes remaining in the first half, the Remix closed the quarter on a stunning 14-2 run. The burst was fueled by defensive stops and efficient transition offense, capped by a Dillon Jones jumper just before the halftime buzzer to give Rip City a 69-63 advantage.

That momentum carried into the second half, as the Remix never relinquished the lead. The Stars, who led 32-28 after a high-scoring first quarter, were outscored 41-31 in the decisive second period.

Hinson, a 6-foot-8 power forward, led all scorers and added five rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes. It was his third consecutive game scoring at least 31 points. He was supported by a balanced Remix attack, with Rayan Rupert contributing 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Javonte Cooke added 20 points and six assists, while Dillon Jones finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Salt Lake City was led by guard Walter Clayton with 25 points and six assists. E.J. Harkless added 27 points off the bench. Center Oscar Tshiebwe controlled the glass with 18 rebounds to go with nine points and two blocks. Taylor Hendricks scored 15 points and John Tonje, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, added 17.

Despite the loss, Salt Lake City’s offense was potent, scoring 36 points in the fourth quarter in a futile attempt to close the gap. However, Rip City answered nearly every basket, scoring 40 points in the final period to secure the victory.

The two teams will meet again in Portland on Thursday.
