Westchester vs. Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — Drew Peterson scored a game-high 32 points and the Greensboro Swarm withstood a furious second-half rally from the Westchester Knicks to secure a 112-106 victory in a G League matchup Friday night at Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.
The Swarm, who led by as many as 22 points in the first half, saw their lead nearly evaporate in the fourth quarter before Peterson and Jaylen Sims made critical plays down the stretch to seal the win. Greensboro improved to 7-4 across all competitions, while Westchester fell to 1-8.
Greensboro dominated the opening half, shooting efficiently and capitalizing on Westchester turnovers to build a commanding 68-45 lead at intermission. The Swarm opened the game with a 32-point first quarter and followed with a 36-point second, powered by Peterson’s all-around play and inside dominance from P.J. Hall.
The complexion of the game shifted dramatically after halftime. The Knicks, led by Tosan Evbuomwan and a barrage of 3-pointers, mounted a sustained comeback. Westchester outscored Greensboro 33-25 in the third quarter to cut into the deficit and continued to press in the fourth.
A key sequence began with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. After Nick Jourdain hit a 3-pointer for Westchester to tie the score at 98-98, the Swarm called a timeout. The Knicks had erased the entire 22-point margin.
Following the timeout, the teams traded baskets before Peterson reasserted control for Greensboro. With the Swarm clinging to a 103-100 lead and just over two minutes to play, Peterson intercepted a Trey Jemison pass and converted a fast-break layup, drawing a goaltending call on Evbuomwan to push the lead to five.
On the ensuing Westchester possession, Peterson secured a defensive rebound after a missed Knicks jumper. He then drilled a 25-foot 3-pointer on the other end with 2:13 left, extending the Swarm’s advantage to 108-100 and effectively halting the Westchester rally.
Westchester made one final push, closing to within 108-104, but Greensboro sealed the game at the free-throw line. Sims made two clutch free throws with 14 seconds remaining to provide the final margin.
Peterson added eight rebounds and six assists to his 32 points for Greensboro. Sims finished with 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and Hall contributed 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Evbuomwan led Westchester with 28 points and nine rebounds. Dink Pate added 19 points and Kevin McCullar scored 17 for the Knicks, who lost despite outscoring the Swarm 61-44 in the second half.
The two teams will meet again at Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse on Sunday.
