Birmingham vs. Mexico City
MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — The Birmingham Squadron and Mexico City Capitanes, both seeking to climb the G League standings, will face off Sunday at the historic Estadio Azteca.
The Squadron (2-3) arrive after a high-scoring 122-118 victory over the Osceola Magic on Nov. 16. Guard Trey Alexander led the way with 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while center Hunter Dickinson added a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Birmingham’s season has been marked by inconsistency, sandwiching a win over Oklahoma City between two losses to Osceola and a defeat by Austin.
The Capitanes (1-3) are also looking to build on a recent win, having defeated the Oklahoma City Blue 121-107 in their last outing. Forward L.J. Figueroa contributed 14 points and four assists, and center Felipe Haase poured in 23 points in the victory. Prior to that, Mexico City dropped three straight, including a pair of road losses to the Memphis Hustle.
Sunday’s contest will be the first of a quick two-game set between the teams, with a rematch scheduled for Monday at the same venue. The game tips off a crucial stretch for both clubs as they navigate the early part of the G League schedule.
