Motor City vs. Noblesville

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Motor City Cruise used a dominant second half to pull away from the winless Noblesville Boom, securing a 107-96 victory in a G League matchup Saturday night at the Arena at Innovation Mile.

After a fast-paced first half that saw the Boom lead by as many as 12 points, the Cruise outscored Noblesville 59-36 over the final two quarters to snap a two-game skid and even their season record at 3-3. The Boom remain the league’s only winless team, falling to 0-7.

The game turned decisively in the third quarter. Trailing 60-48 late in the second period, the Cruise closed the half on a 9-0 run and then erupted for 31 points in the third quarter. A stifling defense held the Boom to just 22 points in the period, flipping a halftime deficit into an 82-79 lead heading into the final frame.

Motor City’s interior presence was the story of the game, led by a powerful performance from center Tolu Smith. The 6-foot-11 big man recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, adding four assists and a steal in 28 minutes of action. His work in the paint was complemented by shooting guard Wendell Moore, who also notched a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cruise controlled the glass, outrebounding the Boom 51-42, which helped offset a sloppy performance that included 22 turnovers. Motor City also capitalized on its size with eight blocked shots.

Isaac Jones provided a crucial spark for the Cruise with 18 points and seven rebounds off the bench. The Cruise’s offense, while not always efficient, was persistent, scoring 107 points on 107 possessions for an offensive rating of 99.7.

For Noblesville, point guard RayJ Dennis led the way with 21 points and seven assists, but he struggled with his shot, going 9 of 24 from the field. The Boom’s offense sputtered in the second half, managing only 36 points after scoring 60 in the first half. As a team, Noblesville shot just 33 of 92 from the floor and 12 of 42 from three-point range.

The first half was a different story, as the Boom’s up-tempo style and three-point shooting built an early advantage. Noblesville led 30-27 after a high-scoring first quarter and extended its lead in the second period before the Cruise’s closing run shifted the momentum for good.

The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at the same venue Sunday. Motor City will look to build a winning streak, while Noblesville continues its search for its first victory of the season.
