Motor City vs. Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Interstat) — The Motor City Cruise, led by a dominant offensive performance, avenged a loss from the previous afternoon by outlasting the Grand Rapids Gold 122-117 in a high-octane NBA G League contest Sunday at Van Andel Arena.
In a game defined by explosive scoring runs, the Cruise overcame an early deficit with a massive second half to secure the victory and improve their season record to 2-3. The Gold, who had handily defeated Motor City 118-94 on Saturday, saw their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 4-1.
Grand Rapids established control early, using a 12-2 run to build a 29-20 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Gold’s offense was efficient, while the Cruise struggled to find a consistent rhythm.
Motor City began its comeback in the second quarter, outscoring Grand Rapids 30-22 to trim the deficit to a single point, 51-50, at halftime. The momentum fully shifted in the third quarter as the Cruise poured in 31 points to take an 81-83 lead into the final period.
The fourth quarter turned into a shootout, with both teams combining for 75 points. Motor City’s offense proved unstoppable, erupting for 41 points in the quarter. The Cruise repeatedly answered every Gold basket, using a series of clutch three-pointers and drives to the basket to maintain a narrow but persistent lead down the stretch.
Brice Williams was the catalyst for the Cruise, delivering a stellar all-around performance. His scoring prowess, particularly from beyond the arc, and key defensive plays in the final minutes were instrumental in securing the win. He was supported effectively by point guard Jaden Akins, who orchestrated the offense with precision and contributed crucial points of his own.
For the Gold, Kessler Edwards provided a consistent offensive threat, using his size and shooting ability to keep his team in the game. Moses Brown was a force in the paint for Grand Rapids, dominating the offensive glass and scoring on multiple putbacks, though he struggled at the free-throw line.
The game was not decided until the final seconds. After a series of intentional fouls and timeouts, the Cruise iced the game from the charity stripe, with John Ukomadu and Jaden Akins making critical free throws to seal the five-point victory.
Motor City will look to build on the win when they travel to face the Noblesville Boom on Saturday, Nov. 22. Grand Rapids will aim to rebound on the road against the Wisconsin Herd on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
