Texas vs. Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas (Interstat) — In a high-octane offensive showcase, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers outlasted the Texas Legends 133-126 in a G League contest Saturday night at Bert Ogden Arena.

The game was a tale of explosive quarters and resilient responses. The Vipers set a torrid pace from the opening tip, erupting for 40 points in the first quarter to establish a 12-point lead. The Legends, however, responded with a dominant 35-point second quarter to trim the deficit to just two points at halftime, with the score 65-63.

Texas carried that momentum into the third quarter, posting a game-high 37 points to briefly seize control of the game. But Rio Grande Valley answered with 34 points of its own in the period to keep the contest tight, setting the stage for a frantic fourth quarter. Both teams scored 34 points in the final frame, but the Vipers made critical plays down the stretch to secure their first victory of the season, improving to 1-2. The Legends fell to 2-3 with the loss.

The victory was fueled by superior efficiency. Despite both teams taking a nearly identical number of field goal attempts, the Vipers were more effective, posting an offensive rating of 126.3 points per 100 possessions compared to the Legends’ 116.2. Rio Grande Valley also capitalized more frequently at the free-throw line, making 22 of 28 attempts, while Texas converted 17 of 24.

J.D. Davison orchestrated the Vipers’ attack with a stellar all-around performance, scoring 26 points and dishing out 13 assists. Isaiah Crawford led all scorers with 27 points and added seven rebounds, while Kevon Harris contributed 22 points and six rebounds.

For the Legends, Matthew Cleveland recorded a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Dalano Banton filled the stat sheet with 22 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Mark Armstrong provided a significant spark off the bench, scoring 24 points in just 19 minutes of play.

The win avenges a loss for the Vipers against the same Legends team just two days prior. Rio Grande Valley travels to face the Memphis Hustle on Wednesday, while Texas returns home to host the Oklahoma City Blue on Nov. 21.
