Austin vs. Memphis

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (Interstat) — The Austin Spurs remained undefeated on the young season with a commanding 120-98 victory over the Memphis Hustle in a G League matchup Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Austin improved to 3-0 across all competitions, while Memphis fell to 3-2.

The Spurs seized control of the game with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Hustle 32-14 to turn a 23-23 tie after the first period into a 55-37 halftime lead. Austin’s offense continued to fire on all cylinders after the break, putting up 33 points in the third quarter to extend its advantage. Memphis mounted a late surge with a 36-point fourth quarter, but the deficit was too large to overcome.

Austin’s offensive efficiency was the story of the game. The Spurs scored 120 points on 98 possessions, translating to an elite offensive rating of 122.7. They were efficient from the field, shooting 53% by making 37 of 70 attempts. They also outrebounded the Hustle 51-39.

Memphis struggled with its shooting throughout the night, connecting on just 32 of 94 field goal attempts for a 34% clip. From beyond the arc, the Hustle were particularly cold, making only 10 of 44 three-point attempts. Despite forcing 26 Austin turnovers and committing seven fewer themselves, Memphis could not capitalize enough off those opportunities to close the gap.

David Jones led all scorers with 31 points for Austin, adding eight rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes. Stanley Umude provided significant support with 24 points and eight rebounds. Jamaree Bouyea and Kyle Mangas chipped in 15 and 16 points, respectively, while Riley Minix posted a well-rounded line of 13 points and eight rebounds.

For Memphis, Charlie Brown and Tyler Burton each scored 18 points. DeJon Jarreau facilitated the offense with six assists and also pulled down seven rebounds.

The two teams are scheduled for a quick rematch at the same venue on Sunday.

According to Interstat’s ELO system, Austin was projected with a 61.60 percent probability to win the contest.
