Wisconsin vs. Cleveland

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — In a thrilling G League rematch decided in the final second, the Wisconsin Herd avenged a loss from the previous night by edging the Cleveland Charge 110-109 on Saturday at Wolstein Center.

Pete Nance delivered a heroic performance for the Herd, scoring the game-winning basket on a driving layup as time expired to cap a 34-point night. His clutch shot came after a frantic final sequence where Cleveland missed two point-blank attempts to take the lead in the closing seconds.

The contest was a tale of contrasting strengths. Wisconsin’s victory was fueled by a blistering shooting performance from beyond the arc, connecting on 20 of 38 three-point attempts. Cleveland, conversely, struggled from deep, making only 10 of 37, but dominated the glass with a 50-33 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive boards.

Despite being outrebounded by 17, the Herd’s efficiency proved decisive. Wisconsin shot 50 percent from the field on 40-of-80 shooting, while Cleveland was held to 40 percent on 35-of-87 shooting. The Charge kept pace by converting 16 of 18 free throws, compared to Wisconsin’s 6-of-8 effort from the line.

The game featured 16 lead changes and was tight throughout. Wisconsin built an early lead, taking a 57-52 advantage into halftime. Cleveland responded with a massive 36-point third quarter, spearheaded by Luke Travers and Tristan Enaruna, to seize control and enter the final period with an 88-83 lead.

The fourth quarter became a back-and-forth affair. With just over a minute remaining, Darius Brown hit one of two free throws to give Cleveland a 109-108 lead, setting the stage for the dramatic finish. After a missed alley-oop attempt by the Charge, Wisconsin secured the defensive rebound and called a timeout with eight seconds left, leading to Nance’s game-winner.

Nance’s 34-point, 8-rebound effort led the Herd. He was supported by 23 points from Stevie Thompson and 21 points off the bench from Craig Randall. Kira Lewis Jr. added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Cleveland was led by a 24-point, 12-rebound, five-assist performance from Luke Travers. Tristan Enaruna scored 23 points, while Miller Kopp contributed 16. Norchad Omier hauled in 12 rebounds to go with nine points.

The win improved Wisconsin’s season record to 1-3, while Cleveland fell to 2-3. The two teams split the brief two-game series after the Charge secured a 115-113 victory on Friday night.

Wisconsin’s next game is at home against Grand Rapids on Wednesday. Cleveland begins a road trip at Sioux Falls on Tuesday.
